About the project

Marks become maps.

This project stems from a desire to transform the way we view marks on the body. Scars are often judged based on a superficial perspective that ignores the pain, struggle, and healing process behind each one. The central purpose of this work is to honor them and portray them as a source of pride: visual symbols of overcoming adversity, resilience, and self-love.

In the Portfolio section, the project combines color photography with personal narratives through interviews and stories told by the models themselves. Each image respects the skin’s natural tone and organic texture, reaffirming the authentic beauty of the human body.

Conceptually, the project draws inspiration from the work of British photographer Sophie Mayanne (Behind the Scars), who views scars as a celebration of imperfection and victory over adversity. Building on this premise, I incorporated an artistic intervention using drawings that trace constellations over the models’ marks. This visual metaphor connects human biology with the vastness of the universe, suggesting that the skin and its marks form a unique star map that tells the story of who we are.
